Fantasy or fiction is just a person’s secret life, the world they want to be in. The only difference between them and you, is that they wrote it down in detail, printed and shared it with the world and books are a great way to travel fantasy…Whenever we think of fantasy novels, the Harry Potter series tops the list. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is an engrossing start to Harry’s quest for understanding his history and facing his destiny.

The book was written between June 1990 and some point in 1995, and it was Rowling’s debut novel. It’s about Harry Potter, an orphan who was raised by his aunt and uncle after his parents died when he was a toddler. Harry’s uncle and aunt dislike him, but that changes when he is asked to enter Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and discovers he is a wizard. When Harry and his new friends Hermione and Ron arrive at Hogwarts, he knows he has special powers, and his adventures begin.

Hagrid, who brought Harry to Hogwarts, enlightens him of how his parents, a wizard and a witch, were slain by Voldemort, the evil wizard, and that Harry received the lightning-bolt scar on his forehead during the fateful encounter.

Harry realizes that he has a nemesis in Draco Malfoy (Slytherin). Harry’s ability to fly on a broomstick makes him a star on Gryffindor’s Quidditch squad. Draco leads Harry and his pals into leaving their lodgings one night, which is against school regulations, to bring them into trouble. They find a three-headed dog guarding a trapdoor while attempting to avoid getting captured.

Harry deduces that Professor Snape, his Potions instructor, despises him and is attempting to seize whatever is hidden under the trapdoor. As a Xmas gift, Harry gets his father’s invisibility cloak, and when he looks inside the cover, he uncovers the Mirror of Erised, in which he can glimpse his parents.  According to Headmaster Albus Dumbledore, the mirror exposes the viewer’s most ardent desire.

According to Harry, Ron, and Hermione, the prize concealed beneath the trapdoor is the Philosopher’s Stone, which can convert metal into gold and give immortality. They later hear that Voldemort has been slaying unicorns in the Forbidden Forest in order to suck their blood and become immortal.

The three uncover Snape’s allegiance with the evil wizard. They are convinced that the Philosopher’s Stone is in jeopardy after learning that Hagrid disclosed the secret method for lulling the three-headed dog to a suspicious stranger, who they think to be either Snape or Voldemort. On a quest to protect the stone, the three students employ their invisibility cloaks.

After overcoming the dog and several protection charms, Harry enters the chamber where the Stone is kept and is astonished to see Professor Quirrell, who is always apprehensive. Quirrell is unable to extract the Stone from the Mirror of Erised (the ultimate defensive step), so Harry is forced to try it.

Harry feels the Stone’s weight in his pocket while standing in front of the mirror, desiring not to use it for himself, but refuses to inform Quirrell. Quirrell unwraps his turban, showing the back of Voldemort’s head. Voldemort discloses that he has been inhabiting Quirrell’s body until he can acquire the Stone and recover his entire existence, and Voldemort/Quirrell and Harry fight over the Stone until Harry passes out… He wakes up in the hospital, learning that Dumbledore has saved him, the Stone is to be destroyed, and Voldemort has fled.

A child’s imagination is sparked and improved by the wonderful, magical world of such stories. It demonstrates and teaches us how to face difficulties, how friends remain together no matter what, recognize our power, and, most importantly, how love triumphs over hatred. Because of his mother’s urge to protect him, Harry escaped Voldemort’s curse. Harry’s life was actually saved by love, and its power lingered as the magic connected to his mother’s sacrifice took root in the house of his sole living relative.

Jane Austen’s writing style seems to influence J.K Rowling in this one. The vivid details are worthy of appreciation. Philosopher’s Stone was compared by multiple critics to Roald Dahl’s tales.
