A high priestess named Ianthe is preparing the wedding. Rhysand arrives and takes Feyre to his Court after she decides not to marry Tamlin. Rhysand advises Feyre to know to read and guard her mind so she doesn’t annoy him constantly. Rhysand warns Feyre that a conflict is coming that will demolish the barrier that separates the Fae and human worlds. Prythian is now protecting the human planet from Hybern’s King.

Feyre eventually feels stuck at the spring court, thanks to an oppressive Tamlin, and is taken away on her wedding day to complete her deal with Rhys at the night court. Feyre and Rhys eventually fall in love. The Greek myths of Hades and Persephone are retold in A Court of Mist and Fury. Feyre and Tamlin’s relationship is ended in this novel, and Feyre and Rhysand’s new romance is developing. The build-up of tension at the end is superb. Their continual taunting and back-and-forth banter provide comedic relief while also endearing them as a relationship.
Maas hasn’t skimped on the character development and characterization in this book. It was empowering of Feyre to take charge of her own life. There were several roadblocks—people, customs, and politics—and it was fascinating to see her overcome them. The many ways in which people cope with trauma and stress were examined, but not in an overt manner. It was a good lesson on the difference between toxic individuals and supportive/loving ones.
Overall, A Court of Mist and Fury is an engrossing novel that draws you in and doesn’t let go until the very last page. This book can surely make a place on your bookshelf with its prequel and sequel.
